Joe (1970) was chosen by Joe (1970) and Joe (1970) Two recently graduated Catholic University students. Chris Sarandon was not selected even though he previously studied acting. His wife Susan got a major role. That role was as Susan Compton as the daughter of an ad executive Bill Compton (Dennis Patrick). Dad Bill kills Susan’s drug dealer boyfriend. After more than 15 years of having started her career, Sarandon at last actively campaigned for a role that was a hit, Annie in Bull Durham (1988), travelling herself from Rome to Los Angeles. "It was a fantastic script... It did dispel a lot of misconceptions and challenged American notions of what success is," she stated. "When I arrived in the city I had a few hours with Kevin Costner, kissed some women at the studio and returned to the plane". Tim Robbins (1988), her Bull Durham supporting actor, already had two sons by 1992 which allowed Sarandon in a position that she was able to leave her home and pursue challenging roles. This led to four Academy Award nominations in the 1990s, and the best actress award for Dead Man Walking (1995). Her first Academy Award nomination was for Louis Malle's Atlantic City (1980).
